Florida Medicare
Medicare established in 1965 is a health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, in addition to people who are age under age 65 with certain disabilities. If you have with End-Stage Renal Disease, or you are in full kidney failure that requires you to have dialysis you also qualify for Medicare. In additon if you have had a kidney transplant you also qualify.
The Four Parts of Medicare:
- Medicare Part A - Hospital Insurance
- Medicare Part B - Medical Insurance
- Medicare Part C - Medicare Advantage
- Medicare Part D - Prescription Drug Coverage
Medicare Part A - Hospital Insurance
Part A of Medicare provides for hospital insurance coverage. This part of Medicare covers the costs associated with a hospital stay, critical/emergency room admission, hospice and long term care hospitals. It also covers stays in a skilled nursing facility; however, this does not include custodial or long term care facilities.
Medicare Part B - Medical Insurance
Medicare Part B or more commonly referred to as medical insurance is the part of Medicare that you would normally enroll in at the age of 65. There is a premium payment for Medicare part B which can be automatically deducted from your Social Security check. Enrollment is not automatic, and also not mandatory. For example, if you work for a company and you are enrolled in a group health insurance plan and you turn 65 you can delay enrollment into part B with no penalty.
Part B of the Florida Medicare covers medical costs incurred that do not directly happen inside hospitals. This includes regular medical checkups to prevent illness, as well as, for when you are sick. Some of the preventative measures it covers are those such as diabetic screenings, bone mass measurements and even diabetic supplies. For those that need it, part B covers ambulatory service which can be beneficial to those that cannot drive. Being able to access preventative measures to avoid illness or keep it from getting worse is vital to good health.
Medicare Part C - Medicare Advantage In Florida
Medicare Advantage plans in Florida are private health plans. They provide many of the same coverages that Original Medicare and more. Medicare Advantage plans offer low co-payments for such things as doctor visits and hospital stays. These plans can also cover Prescription drugs (Part D) and additional benefits not covered by Original Medicare.
Medicare Part D - Prescription Drug Coverage
Prescription drug coverage or Part D coverage is offered through private insurance companies. It covers part of the costs associated with prescription drugs. With Part D coverage you will generally pay a copayment for your prescription drugs. All plans have their own formulary so it is advisable to speak with an adviser before you buy. If you decide you want to wait to sign up, you may pay a penalty.
Everyone that is on Medicare is eligible for Part D coverage, regardless of income and resources, or pre-existing conditions.
